Jim Mowatt goes for a walk
My Story
I am taking part in Pier to Pier 2022 in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospices. EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk and support their families.
I recently started working for EACH as site facilities manager at the Cambridge Hospice. I have seen first hand the amazing work that is being done there and so am keen to support the charity through my work and through fundraising events such as this.
Walking the 32 miles between the two piers in 12 hours will be quite a challenge. Twelve hours sounds a long time but counting in stops for food, rest and calls of nature it will require a fairly decent pace. We (my wife, Carrie and I) have been doing some long walks exploring the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside, in training for this. We have also tried out some of the Norfolk coastal path and it was a bit of a shock. Despite being on the coast there were these geographical peculiarities known as hills out there. We are not accustomed to these types of shenanigans in Cambridge. However, I am confident that we will take them in our stride on the day.
